一頭霧水  Can’t make head or tail of something

銅板有正（Head）、反（Tail）兩面，碰到不能做決定的時候，我們常會擲銅板，然後自問要選那一面 head or tail?（正面還是反面）〞。

當然最後結果不是正面，就一定是反面。但若是連正反面都看不出來，那豈不是有看沒有懂──一頭霧水，也就是我們俚語常說的「霧煞煞」，或是比較文言一點說法「丈二金剛摸不著頭腦」了。

Mark：Have you read the E-mail yet?

Mark：你看過這封E-mail了嗎？

Lydia：You mean the one about internal re-org (re-organization)?

Lydia：你是指關於內部重組的那封嗎？

Mark：Yup! That’s the one I’m talking about.

Mark：對！我就是在說那封。

Lydia：I just did. I was wondering why they put Tina under Mandy. She has been working on the sales side for so long and she has zero experience about marketing.

Lydia：我剛看到了。我還在想，他們幹嘛把Tina放到Mandy組下，她一直以來都是做銷售的，行銷方面的經驗是零。

Mark：That’s also my question. Especially wee all know that Mandy isn’t someone with patience.

Mark：我也有同樣的疑問。尤其我們都知道Mandy可是一點耐心都沒有的。

Lydia：There must be a reason behind this.

Lydia：背後一定有原因。

Mark：Honestly, I can’t make head or tail of it.

Mark：老實說，我是一頭霧水。

Lydia：Well, My only possible explanation is the top management is trying to get rid of Tina…

Lydia：唉，我唯一的解釋就是管理階層想踢走Tina。

Mark：You think she’ll just quit knowing she’s now in Mandy’team?

Mark：你覺得Tina一旦知道自己要到Mandy那組之後會離職嗎？

Lydia：Very likely, I would say.

Lydia：我覺得很有可能。

Mark：(Sigh) Politics again!

Mark：（嘆氣）又在搞鬥爭了！
